The four main types of parking are short stay, long stay, meet & greet and valet parking options:

• Short stay (or multi-storey) — usually very near to the terminal and just a few minutes’ walk to departures.
• Long stay (or park & ride) — a bus ride or at least a 10-minute walk away (depending on the airport).
• Meet & greet — you drive to an agreed airport handover area, leave your car and keys with the parking team and walk to the terminal while they take the vehicle to secure storage.
• Valet parking — usually the same basic idea as meet & greet: hand over your car and keys close to the terminal and let somebody else park it. The names overlap, so check the exact handover point and where the vehicle is stored rather than assuming “valet” is a completely different parking type.

If you’re travelling with the family, you may find the meet & greet service is best suited to you; if you’re not carrying huge amounts of luggage then a cheaper off-airport car park may be the best option for you.

Car Park 1 — covered multi-storey parking about a 1-minute walk from the terminal; keep your keys.

Car Park 3 Priority Parking — ground-floor parking with around a 1-minute walk, designed to make getting in and out quicker.

Car Park 4 — official surface parking around a 3–5-minute walk away, with a courtesy bus also available.

Car Park 5 — official surface parking around a 5–10-minute walk away, with a free shuttle around every 15 minutes. Birmingham clearly isn’t determined to make you get your steps in.

Premium Pre-booked — Birmingham Airport describes this as its closest pre-bookable parking, less than a minute from the terminal.

Meet & greet / valet:

Birmingham Airport Valet Parking — official valet parking next to Car Park 3, around a 1-minute walk from check-in.

Airparks Express and APH Express Parking — around a 3-minute shuttle from the NEC West site; self-park and keep your keys.

ShortRun by Airparks — around a 5-minute shuttle and you keep your keys.

Drop-off & pick-up (if you’re just waving, not flying):

Premium Set Down — about a 1-minute walk from the terminal. The current turn-up price is £8 for the first 15 minutes.

Drop Off car park — around a 5–10-minute walk and the first 10 minutes are free. There is a no-return-within-one-hour rule.

Which parking type is cheapest?

Expect to pay more for convenience. Short stay is usually the most expensive option as your car stays in the closest car park to the airport and your keys stay in your pocket, allowing you a quick walk back to your car. Even though you will drop your car very close to the airport, valet and meet & greet can still be cheaper than long stay (park & ride) — meet & greet providers take your car off-airport to cheaper locations, so they can be very competitive. You also have to arrange dropping-off and picking-up times and leave your keys.

The table above shows that over the six months - the 1st April to 30th September 2025 - the average price of a day in Short Stay booked two weeks in advance was £21.23 compared to Park & Ride which was £17.40. That is a saving of almost £4 a day. Short Stay booked closer to the time was much pricer.

The most expensive way to park is to turn up on the day and pay as you enter. Not only will it cost more but they might not have spaces, leaving you with a lot more stress than having to remember to book!

Each car park will have its own prices, but the current Birmingham Airport turn-up tariffs make the point nicely: Car Parks 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 are £67 for up to 24 hours. Car Park 7 is £51 for the first 24 hours and £44 for each additional 24 hours or part-day. Therefore, you would spend £315 at Car Park 7 for a 7-day stay.

You can save more money by booking in advance, with the amount you save depending on how far in advance you book: aim for at least two weeks.

Birmingham, like most airports, has its own car parks which cover short stay, long stay, and meet & greet, among others. And, like most airports, it has third-party operators providing parking options. You may have read about rogue parking operators at airports and understandably that can be off-putting, but the reality is that lots of trusted, established providers run car parks all across the UK.

Birmingham official parking includes Car Park 1, Car Parks 2 & 3, Car Park 3 Priority Parking, Car Parks 4, 5 and 7, Premium Pre-booked and Valet Parking. The remaining products we compare are third-party services.

Why no third-party short stay? By virtue of short stay needing to offer a short walk and therefore be near the terminal and on the airport grounds, it’s usually the preserve of the official airport parking – with third-party operators focused on park & ride and meet & greet.

Is official or third-party the cheapest?

Comparing like-for-like (e.g., meet & greet vs meet & greet; park & ride vs park & ride), official is more often than not pricier. If you prefer an official option Car Park 7 is the cheapest. Don’t forget — pricing is dynamic, so do a search and confirm.

Tip: It might be considered that the official car park has better facilities or convenience, but not necessarily; remember to check features like distance to terminal and shuttle bus schedules.

There is very likely to be more than one provider of your chosen parking option: Birmingham has multiple park & ride operators and several meet & greet choices. For example, Airparks Express and APH Express are only around three minutes from the terminal by shuttle, while APH and Airparks at Mackadown Lane are around 14 minutes away. The quicker product is not necessarily the cheapest, which is exactly why it pays to compare.

What terminology is helpful to understand pricing?

Meet & greet vs valet parking

Meet & greet and valet parking are similar beasts and the names overlap. At Birmingham, both generally mean driving to a designated airport handover area, leaving your car and keys and walking to the terminal while somebody else parks the vehicle. “Valet” can signal a premium or operator-branded service, but it does not guarantee a fundamentally different handover process. Check the exact meeting point, storage location and what is included.

Park & ride vs long stay

These terms are often used interchangeably with park & ride preferred by third-party operators and long stay by the official airport. In general, both involve a bus ride but sometimes you have to walk from a long-stay car park depending on the airport’s layout.

On-airport vs off-airport

Many comparison sites have an on-airport filter and a separate one for park & ride, but the labels are not always used in exactly the same way. An official airport car park can still involve a shuttle, while some third-party products are extremely close to the terminal. Treat the label as a useful starting point, then check the actual location, transfer and operator before deciding.

Short stay

Short stay doesn’t mean you have to stay for a short period of time. The price and closeness to the airport means it is usually used by friends or relatives sending someone off, but you can park for a week or two if you want. Just remember it will cost you a lot more.

Accessibility at Birmingham Airport Parking

Blue Badge and accessible parking

Birmingham Airport provides Blue Badge spaces in Car Parks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 as well as Valet Parking. Car Parks 4 and 5 have accessible bus services to the terminal, while Car Parks 1, 2 and 3 are within walking distance. Car Park 7 has designated Blue Badge bays and a courtesy bus; if you need specific boarding assistance, check the current arrangements before travel. Blue Badge holders can also use Premium Set Down for up to 30 minutes free after validation.

Independent car parks vary, so if a wheelchair-accessible shuttle or step-free transfer is essential, check the exact product before booking rather than assuming every minibus is suitable.

Electric vehicles and vehicle restrictions

Birmingham Airport currently says there are no electric-car charging points in its official airport car parks, although a new high-speed EV hub is planned. Some off-airport products are different: for example, APH Charge & Go is a separate bookable product at Mackadown Lane that includes EV charging. Do not assume charging is included unless the exact product says so.

Official multi-storey height limits are currently 2.15m for Car Park 1 and 2.05m for Car Parks 2 and 3. Independent products have their own vehicle limits; for example, the standard APH Drop and Go product accepts vehicles up to 2.1m high, 2m wide and 5m long. Always check the exact product if your vehicle is unusually high, long or wide.

Is there Motorbike parking at Birmingham Airport?

Yes. Birmingham Airport currently provides a designated sheltered motorcycle parking area in Car Park 2 and states there is currently no charge. Motorcycles parked elsewhere may be removed, so use the designated area.

The Drop Off car park gives you the first 10 minutes free and is around a 5–10-minute walk from the terminal. Premium Set Down is around a 1-minute walk and currently costs £8 for the first 15 minutes.

Do not stop on Birmingham Airport's red routes, even briefly to unload. The airport operates camera enforcement and currently states an enforcement charge of £100, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.
