Teesside Parking Guide

Teesside Airport offers several car parking options. There is a secure on-airport car park located right in front of the airport terminal building as well as a range of Airport hotel car parks within the airport site. Be sure to compare prices and book in advance for the best deals!

How to choose the cheapest Teesside International Airport Parking?

Used to just rocking up to official Teesside parking on the day and paying as you enter? Perfectly understandable as you just want to relax and enjoy your holiday; however, by using Airport Parking Shop and a tiny bit of planning, you can save money and perhaps find an option better suited to you.

A comparison: Turning up at the On-Airport Car Park (Short & Long Stay) is £36.00 for 12–24 hours and £105.00 for 7 days (then £15 per additional 24 hours). Our lowest price last week was £35.00 for a 7-day stay.

Tempted? Then, whether it is the nearest car park or the cheapest, we give you the answers below in just three bite-sized chunks.

1 – Understand Your Parking Type Options (and what's usually cheapest)

Quick Insights

Park & Ride is usually the cheapest (you park further away and take a bus), while Short Stay, right by the terminal, is the most expensive.

A Deeper Dive

(but don’t worry you will be back to the surface in no time)

  • Short Stay (or Multi-Storey) — usually very near to the terminal and just a few minutes’ walk to departures.
  • Long Stay (or Park & Ride) — these two names exist because Long Stay is more often used for official airport car parks, while Park & Ride is used by third-party providers. What they have in common is that they usually require a shuttle bus or a longish walk of 10+ minutes.
  • Meet & Greet — you leave your car and keys near the terminal; it’s parked for you in a secure compound.

If you’re travelling with the family, you may find the Meet & Greet service is best suited to you; if you’re not carrying huge amounts of luggage then a cheaper Park & Ride may be the best option for you.

Teesside Car-park Specifics

Teesside keeps things simple with one official on-airport car park, directly opposite the terminal — it works for both short and long stays. It’s walkable in well under 5 minutes (typically ~1–3 minutes), no shuttles, and you keep your keys. The site is Park Mark accredited, monitored 24/7, and uses ANPR/ticketless entry.

Walkable (official)

  • On-Airport Car Park (Short & Long Stay) — directly opposite the terminal; walk ~1–3 minutes; self-park; keep your keys; Park Mark; ANPR.

Park & Ride (official/third-party)

  • There is no regular third-party Park & Ride at Teesside — the official car park is designed to be walkable, with no shuttle buses needed.

Meet & Greet

  • Not generally sold as a parking product at Teesside.

Which parking type is cheapest?

Expect to pay more for convenience at larger airports, but at Teesside the on-airport car park is close, simple and often the best value when pre-booked. Drive-up (turn-up) 7-day pricing is £105; pre-booked rates are typically lower, especially outside peak weeks.

Using Airport Parking Shop

Tip: By default, Airport Parking Shop lists prices from low to high irrespective of the parking type, which you can see in the blue box. If you are sure what kind of parking type you want, simply hit the Filter Results option above the results and then select just what you want under Parking Options on the left.

2 – Plan to Book in Advance

Quick Insight

Start looking at least two weeks in advance.

The Quick Dive-Down Part

Turning up and paying at the barrier is the most expensive way to park. Standard turn-up rates are £36.00 for up to 24 hours, £72.00 for 2 days, and £105.00 for 7 days (then £15 per additional day). Pre-bookable online rates start at £24 for up to 24 hours and £70 for 7 days. Our lowest price last week was £35.00 for a 7-day stay. Booking ahead nearly always reduces the total.

Tip: Prices go up due to availability (or lack of), so at busier times of the year, like school and national holidays, you may want to start looking at prices even earlier.

3 – Compare Parking Features to Find the Best Value

Once you’ve decided on a parking type, compare what they offer to get the right balance of price and convenience:

  • Transfer time & frequency (Teesside is walkable; no shuttle required)
  • Distance from terminal (~1–3 minutes walk)
  • Keys (keep vs. leave — official: keep your keys)
  • Opening hours (24/7 operation; ANPR/ticketless system)
  • Security & reviews (Park Mark, CCTV, patrols)
  • Accessibility (Blue Badge bays close to terminal; step-free route)
  • Total price, not headline (compare turn-up £105/7d vs pre-book £70/7d typical)

Compare Parking Options

Car park Transfer Shuttle frequency Keep keys? Good to know
Walkable (Official)
On-Airport Car Park (Short & Long Stay) Walk ~1–3 minutes Yes Directly opposite terminal; Park Mark; ANPR/ticketless entry; turn-up: £36/24h, £105/7 days, then £15/day. Pre-book from £24/24h or £70/7 days.

Using Airport Parking Shop

Tip: After doing a search the features above will be displayed in the tabs, or by hitting the More Info button.

Durham Area Guide

Situated in Stockton-on-Tees, Teesside is a small, but historically well established town. It has an abundance of pubs and clubs which attract people from all over the UK, particularly the ever-popular Club M. The food is good too, with a diverse spread of award winning restaurants.

Teesside Airport offers a wide range of facilities. Its clean, modern set-up allows for minimum-fuss maximum-pleasure travelling, complemented by the accessible area it is situated in.

About Teesside Airport

Introduction to Teesside

Teesside International is a small single-terminal airport in the Tees Valley, between Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees, serving much of County Durham and North Yorkshire. It handles a relatively modest number of passengers each year compared with the big regional hubs, which usually keeps things fairly relaxed and straightforward. Check-in, security and departures are all in the same compact building and the main car park is directly in front of the terminal – you can usually walk from your car to check-in in a couple of minutes, with no shuttle buses involved. As a rough guide, most airlines suggest arriving around 1½–2 hours before departure; at busier holiday times it’s sensible to allow a little more, especially if you’re checking in bags.

1. How to get to Teesside Airport?

You’ve basically got four main ways to reach Teesside International Airport:

Bus & coach

  • Stagecoach 6 / 6A – The main airport bus route, running roughly hourly between Stockton-on-Tees High Street, Ingleby Barwick, Yarm, Eaglescliffe, Teesside Airport, Middleton St George, Darlington town centre and Hurworth. It stops at the terminal building, making it the go-to option if you’re along this corridor.
  • Other local services / Tees Flex – Local and demand-responsive services (such as Tees Flex) also operate in the wider area and can be used to connect into the airport from nearby towns and villages.
  • Longer-distance coaches – Intercity coach operators mainly serve Middlesbrough, Stockton or Darlington rather than the airport itself. From there, you’d usually connect by Stagecoach 6/6A or taxi to complete the journey.

Train + bus / taxi

  • There’s no big rail station at the terminal. The nearest large mainline hub is Darlington, around 6 miles away, on the East Coast Main Line with fast links to London, York, Newcastle and Scotland, plus regional services to Middlesbrough, Saltburn and Bishop Auckland.
  • From Darlington station you can either:
    • take the 6 / 6A bus directly to the airport, or
    • hop in a taxi (typically about 10–15 minutes in normal traffic).
  • Dinsdale station is closer in pure distance (around 2 miles away in Middleton St George), and has local services, but most longer-distance rail travellers will find Darlington easier for connections.

Car

  • Teesside International sits just off the A67, close to the major A1(M), A19 and A66 corridors, so road access from the Tees Valley, County Durham and much of North Yorkshire is straightforward. Driving times from Darlington, Stockton or Middlesbrough are typically around 15–25 minutes in normal conditions.
  • Official on-airport parking is very simple:
    • The main on-airport car park is directly opposite the terminal – you park your own car, keep your keys and walk to check-in in a couple of minutes.
    • Short-stay and longer-stay options are usually in the same general car park area, with different tariffs depending on how long you stay.
    • Independent Park & Ride or hotel-and-parking options may also be available nearby if you’re hunting for the lowest price.

Taxi / private hire

  • Taxis are available directly outside the terminal, and local firms cover the wider Tees Valley, County Durham and North Yorkshire areas. For shorter journeys or groups of 3–4 people, the total cost can be comparable to a week’s parking; for longer distances, driving and parking is often cheaper overall, especially if you share costs between several travellers.

2. Choosing the right transport for you?

Whether you choose public transport, to drive, or to take a taxi will come down to a mix of cost, convenience and how you feel about risk and faff. Only you can balance those, and it may change every time you fly – but it’s worth thinking about a few things:

Do a price comparison

You might assume driving and parking is always the most expensive option – but that’s not always true. Teesside’s on-airport parking is very close to the terminal and is often competitively priced when you book in advance, and there are third-party options too. Do your due diligence and check bus, train and taxi prices, but then run a quick search above – it takes less than a minute and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Delays

Think about what happens if your flight is delayed.

  • With parking, you may pay an extra hour or day if you overstay.
  • With trains, buses and coaches, if you miss your booked departure and don’t have a flexible ticket, you’re often buying a completely new ticket at walk-up prices – and evening services on some routes can be infrequent.

Your car, on the other hand, is always “parked and waiting” when you land.

  • How close is your flight to the time of your last bus or train connection? If a one-hour delay means you miss the last service and end up paying for an expensive taxi home, would driving and parking have been cheaper and less stressful overall?

Total costs

  • There may be a cheap bus or rail fare, but how much are you spending on taxis at either end, especially if you’re travelling at awkward times or with luggage/kids?
  • How much longer does it take on public transport? If you have to take extra time off work just to make it work, then add that to the bill.

Stress & peace of mind

Are you going to stay awake all night worrying whether your early-morning taxi will arrive, or whether your bus or train will connect smoothly with your flight?
If so, driving yourself might be the more relaxed option.

Safety

If you’ve got a long drive after a long flight – or you’d like a couple of drinks on board – public transport or an overnight hotel with parking might be the safer choice.

Convenience & luggage

How much lugging is involved? With public transport you may be wrestling multiple cases through town-centre stations, onto buses and trains, and up and down steps. With parking, you load the car once and unload once at the terminal or car park. For families, groups or anyone with mobility issues, that simplicity can be worth paying for.

Total time

At Airport Parking Shop, we like a bargain as much as the next person – that’s why we started the site – but time matters too. Will public transport add an extra hour or two to your journey and how is that going to make you feel?

Where will you be dropped off?

At Teesside, cars and taxis do well here: the on-airport car park is right opposite the terminal and taxis can drop you just outside. If you’re driving you can get near-terminal parking as standard; if you opt for a cheaper off-airport Park & Ride or hotel-and-parking deal, factor in a short transfer.

Which kind of parking is right for me?

So, you’ve decided to park at or near Teesside International – or at least want to understand the options before you commit. Good news: we’ve all the answers in the tab to left, Parking Options.

Here’s what you’ll find there – and how it helps you decide:

  • Park & Ride, Short Stay and Meet & Greet
    • Rough price differences and when to choose each one.
  • How far in advance to book to get the lowest prices
    • Typical patterns for Teesside – how prices tend to move if you book a day before vs a week or a month before departure.
  • Official vs third-party car parks
    • What they both mean and which one is usually cheaper.
  • Key features behind the headline price
    • Walking distance vs shuttle time.
    • Whether you keep your keys or hand them in.
    • Height limits, EV charging, Blue Badge bays and security features that can make a “cheap” price either a bargain or a false economy.
  • Personalised feature comparison tables
    • For Teesside, we show the main car parks side by side, with all their key features, so you can see what you’re actually getting for your money.
  • More pricing detail
    • Average price comparisons for short stays vs longer-stay / Park & Ride options.
    • How costs change if you book 1 day, 1 week or 1 month in advance.
    • Official vs third-party averages, so you can spot when an “official” car park is good value and when an independent option wins.

Parking is very good, right next to the terminal entrance. Price was very fair too . However after our holiday, the machine at the barrier wanted us to pay £120 before we could exit. Our parking had been prepaid, so a quick call on the intercom sorted it out. We weren't the only people with this problem, so definitely a ANPR camera upgrade is needed.
