Newcastle Airport Parking Guide

Airport parking in Newcastle offers a good variety of options, whether you want to park off-site, on-site or use a Meet and Greet service for one or both legs of the trip. If you want to pay for extras such as Fast Track security passes or cleaning when booking car parking at Newcastle Airport, this is also widely available.

How to choose the cheapest Newcastle Airport Parking?

Used to just rocking up to the official Newcastle Airport site on the day and paying as you enter? Perfectly understandable as you just want to relax and enjoy your holiday; however, by using Airport Parking Shop and a tiny bit of planning, you can save money and perhaps find an option better suited to you.

A comparison: Turning up at Short Stay 1 is £90 for 2 days (then £40 per day thereafter). That is a whopping £290 for a week. Our lowest price last week was £74.10 for a 7-day stay.

Tempted? Then, whether it is the nearest car park or the cheapest, we give you the answers below in just five bite-sized chunks.

1 – Understand Your Parking Type Options (and what’s usually cheapest)

Quick Insights

Park & Ride is usually the cheapest (you park further away and take a bus), while Short Stay/Multi-Storey, right by the terminal, is the most expensive.

A Deeper Dive

(but don’t worry you will be back to the surface in no time)

The four main types of parking are Short Stay, Long Stay, Meet & Greet and Valet Parking:

  • Short Stay (or Multi-Storey) — usually very near to the terminal and just a few minutes’ walk to departures.
  • Long Stay (or Park & Ride) — these two names exist because Long Stay is more often used for official airport car park, while Park & Ride is used by third-party providers. What they have in common is that they usually require a shuttle bus or a longish walk of 10+ minutes.
  • Meet & Greet — you leave your car and keys near the terminal; it’s parked for you in a secure car park off-site.
  • Valet Parking — like Meet & Greet but with the added bonus that a driver will meet you right by the terminal drop-off point, saving you the trouble of even having to park in a designated bay.

If you’re travelling with the family, you may find the Meet & Greet service is best suited to you; if you’re not carrying huge amounts of luggage then a cheaper off-airport Park & Ride may be the best option for you.

Newcastle Airport Carpark Specifics

Short Stay 1 — Immediately outside the terminal; walk ~1–3 minutes.

Short Stay 2 — Short walk; 15 minutes free for pick-up/drop-off, then tariff bands apply; walk ~2–4 minutes.

Premium Long Stay — On-airport, premium area within Long Stay; short walk to terminal.

Long Stay — On-airport; walk ~5–7 minutes (about 280–510 m) or take the shuttle ~3–10 minutes; keep keys; shuttle runs 24/7.

Official Premium Meet & Greet — Handover by the Fast Track car park; walk ~1–2 minutes to check-in; leave keys.

Park & Ride (independent) — Park & Fly Newcastle (closest off-airport; shuttle ~2–5 minutes; on-demand/24/7; leave keys). Callerton Parking (on-demand/24/7 mini-bus; shuttle ~5 minutes; leave keys).

Which parking type is cheapest?

Expect to pay more for convenience. Short Stay/Multi-Storey is usually the most expensive since you’re closest to the terminal and you keep your keys. Meet & Greet can sometimes undercut walkable options on busy dates (operators park cars off-site), but you will leave your keys and agree handover times. Park & Ride/Long Stay is typically the best value.

Using Airport Parking Shop

Tip: By default, Airport Parking Shop lists prices from low to high irrespective of the parking type, which you can see in the blue box. If you are sure what kind of parking type you want, simply hit the Filter Results option above the results and then select just what you want under Parking Options on the left.

2 – Plan to Book in Advance

Quick Insight

Start looking at least two weeks in advance.

(The Quick Dive-Down Part)

The most expensive way to park is to turn up on the day and pay as you enter. Not only will it cost more but they might not have spaces, leaving you with a lot more stress than having to remember to book! Turning up at Short Stay 1 is £90 for 2 days (then £40 per day thereafter). That is a whopping £290 for a week. Our lowest price last week was £74.10 for a 7-day stay.

You can save more money by booking in advance, with the amount you save depending on how far in advance you book: usually two weeks sees the largest gain, after which you may still save a little more but it is usually a few percent rather than the 50%+ saved when comparing two weeks to turning up on the day.

3 – Don’t Rely Just on Newcastle Official Car Parks

Quick Insight

Official on-airport can be competitive, but Park & Ride brands like Park & Fly and Callerton often win on price—and they’re only a few minutes away.

A Deeper Dive

(It is only snorkelling)

Newcastle has official Short Stay 1 & 2, Long Stay/Premium Long Stay, and Official Premium Meet & Greet—plus off-airport Park & Ride brands. Stick to operators with Park Mark, clear transfer info, and recent reviews.

Using Airport Parking Shop

See official and third-party options side-by-side by type—no hiding bus-served official options in a separate “on-airport” bucket.

4 – Compare Parking Features to Find the Best Value

There is very likely to be more than one provider of your chosen parking option. Once you’ve decided on a parking type, compare what they offer to get the right balance of price and convenience:

  • Transfer time & frequency (walk minutes or shuttle interval)
  • Distance from terminal (handy if walking is preferred)
  • Keys (keep vs. leave)
  • Opening hours (look for 24/7 if you have late/early flights)
  • Security & reviews (Park Mark, recent ratings)
  • Total price, not headline (watch any airport forecourt fees)
Car park Transfer Shuttle frequency Keep keys? Good to know
Walkable (Official)
Short Stay 1 Walk ~1–3 min Yes Day bands from £50; closest official short stay.
Short Stay 2 Walk ~2–4 min Yes 15 mins free for pick-up/drop-off; then tariff bands apply.
Premium Long Stay Walk (short) Yes Premium area within Long Stay on airport estate.
Long Stay Walk ~5–7 min or Bus ~3–10 min 24/7 Yes Distance ~280–510 m; shuttle runs around the clock.
Official Premium Meet & Greet Walk ~1–2 min from Fast Track car park No Handover curbside; Park Mark.
Park & Ride (Independent)
Park & Fly Newcastle Bus ~2–5 min On-demand / 24/7 No Closest off-airport; luggage help.
Callerton Parking Bus ~5 min On-demand / 24/7 No Established local brand.

Using Airport Parking Shop

Tip: After doing a search the features above will be displayed in the tabs, or by hitting the More Info button.

5 – Compare Sites to Find the Cheapest and Save More

Quick insight

Not every site sells every car park, and the same space can be a different price elsewhere. Check more than one site—or save time by using Airport Parking Shop.

The Detail

(I ran out of deep dive riffs)

There are official airport car parks, national third-party chains, smaller independents, and Meet & Greet operators. Some sell direct, some via comparison sites, and some do both (sometimes under different names). That’s how two sites can offer the same space at different prices.

Use a comparison site to cut through the noise

This helps, but best practice is to glance at more than one source if you’ve time.

All the comparison sites have a lowest price guarantee — isn’t that great?

They’re great, but you usually have to find the lower price yourself and claim within a tight window.

How Airport Parking Shop Can Help

We compare the car parks—and the comparison sites—side-by-side. We’re independent (no car parks of our own), so you see more deals in one place.

How we save time and money:

  • See more options: both independent car parks and comparison sites.
  • Compare providers: see prices for the same space, all next to each other in one search.
  • See like-for-like: compare Park & Ride with Park & Ride, Meet & Greet with Meet & Greet.
  • Quickly narrow down: filter by parking type, customer reviews, providers and even distance to the terminal.
  • Switch dates in a click to see the cheapest.
  • Understand feature differences: check summary cards or tap through for full details.

What terminology is helpful to understand pricing?

Meet & Greet vs Valet Parking

Very similar, but Valet is typically a premium handover right by the terminal.

Park & Ride vs Long Stay

These terms are often used interchangeably with Park & Ride preferred by third-party operators and Long Stay by the official airport. In general, both involve a shuttle bus or at the least a walk of 10 minutes at larger airports. At Newcastle, Long Stay is on-airport and walkable, with a shuttle as a backup; Park & Ride brands are off-airport with quick courtesy buses.

On-airport vs Off-airport

Many comparison sites have an On-Airport filter and a separate one for Park & Ride. The on-airport category might seem self-explanatory, but the search results can often include Long Stay, which may be a bus ride away — similar to Park & Ride. The reason is that Long Stay is usually owned by the airport and so put into “On-Airport”. We think this can be confusing, so we don’t categorise like that. We put all bus-served options together under Park & Ride and all walkable ones under On-Airport so you can compare them like-for-like.

Short Stay

Short Stay doesn’t mean you have to stay for a short period of time. The price and closeness to the airport means it is usually used for quick goodbyes, but you can park for a week or two if you want. Just remember it will cost you a lot more.

Newcastle City Guide

Newcastle has a fine architectural legacy dating from the 12th century, including the Quayside with its view of six bridges, and the Grainger Town area of classical buildings from the 1830's, 60% of them listed. The city's wealth of museums have scooped national awards for their lively exhibitions.

Newcastle's 300-plus pubs, restaurants and nightclubs packed into a spectacular square mile have earned it the accolade of being eighth best party city in the world by American tour experts Weissman Travel. Also perfect for shopping, Eldon Square and Northumberland Street are both in the top ten for turnover in retail centres nationally. The MetroCentre in Gateshead remains one of the largest shopping complexes in Europe.

About Newcastle Airport

Newcastle Airport (the largest in the North East of England) was opened in 1935 and had a grass runway and used oil soaked rags for lights to help approaching planes. It is now a highly successful regional airport serving the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Southern Scotland. It has one runway and one terminal.

The airport regularly serves over 5 million passengers each year, flying to 74 destinations, including the airport’s only long-haul destination, Dubai. Many of these passengers were taking advantage of low-cost flights with easyJet, which arrived at the airport over 10 years ago bringing budget travel to the North East.

Arrived on rainy day, :( Unfortunately when you are on your own with a small child the bad weather makes things more difficult. Spaces between the white lines are very narrow so had to pull out into the middle of the rd to open the doors wide enough to remove the young one from his baby seat and put him in his buggie. Then I had to unload all the luggage onto the road before reversing the car back into its space. (While still pouring with rain). The nearest shelter was quite a distance to carry all the luggage and push the buggie. When I finally got to the shelter it was so small I couldn't gain access as it was over crowded, so stood in the rain with a few others with the little one and all the luggage. Next time will leave the car at the hotel and call a taxi regardless of the weather.
