Newcastle Official On Airport Long Stay Parking

Overview

This page covers both Newcastle Long Stay and Premium Long Stay. They are both official self-parking options within Newcastle Airport's Long Stay area, where you park the car yourself and keep your keys. The difference is essentially where you park: Premium Long Stay uses the section nearer the terminal, reducing the walk by a couple of minutes.

Newcastle Long Stay is the airport’s main budget car park, but it is not hidden miles away behind an industrial estate. It is on the airport grounds and takes approximately 5–7 minutes to walk to the terminal. An on-demand shuttle is also available, with the transfer taking around two minutes.

Premium Long Stay is closer, with a walk of roughly 3–5 minutes. So if both appear when you search, don't imagine you are choosing between two completely different car parks. You are essentially deciding whether it is worth paying a little more to park in the part of Long Stay nearest the terminal.

Newcastle Airport is relatively small and all of the official parking options we compare are on-site and walkable. Standard Long Stay is the furthest from the terminal, but even that means a walk of only around 280–510 metres depending on where you park. So don't let the words “Long Stay” have you reaching for the hiking boots.

If you have already done a price search then you might be confused (and justifiably) by the names. Short Stay 2 is the next step closer to the terminal, followed by Short Stay 1, while Premium Fast Track gets you almost to the terminal door. There is also Premium Meet & Greet if you would rather hand over the keys and let someone else park the car.

With Long Stay you park in your own bay, keep your keys and either walk straight to departures or use the shuttle if you have heavy luggage. It is generally the option to look at first if keeping the cost down matters more than shaving a few minutes off the walk. If Premium Long Stay is available for only a little more, the shorter walk may make the upgrade worthwhile.

How does Long Stay compare with Short Stay 2?

Newcastle Short Stay 2 is also an official self-parking option where you keep your keys, but it is closer to the terminal than standard Long Stay at around 3–5 minutes' walk compared with approximately 5–7 minutes.

There really isn't a vast expedition between the two. Choose Short Stay 2 if the shorter walk is worth the extra cost for your dates; choose standard Long Stay if you would rather save the money and spend another couple of minutes walking. If Premium Long Stay appears in your results, its location brings it much closer to Short Stay 2 in terms of walking distance, so price becomes particularly important when comparing the two.

How does Long Stay compare with Short Stay 1?

Newcastle Short Stay 1 is immediately outside the terminal, so it is considerably closer than standard Long Stay. The trade-off is exactly what you would expect: you are paying more for the convenience of having the terminal almost on your doorstep.

Long Stay makes more sense if price is the priority and a 5–7 minute walk isn't going to ruin your holiday before it has started. Short Stay 1 is the better choice if getting from car to check-in as quickly as possible matters more.

Important things to know

Take a ticket at the entrance, park in any available bay and keep the ticket safe for your return. The car park also uses number plate recognition cameras. Accessible spaces are available in Zone A, and an on-demand shuttle is available if you would rather not walk to the terminal.

If you stay beyond the parking period you booked, additional time is charged at the car park's current drive-up rate. Newcastle Airport's official Long Stay car park is monitored by CCTV, protected by security fencing and manned 24 hours a day.

Security

The car park has 24-hour CCTV, 24-hour security patrols, entry and exit barriers, a fence and floodlighting. It holds the Park Mark, a national security award for car parks which is accredited by the police.

Directions

The airport is 10 minutes from Newcastle city centre on the A696. Turn right at the roundabout into the airport complex (or left if you're coming along the A696 from the north), then take the first exit at the next roundabout and follow the signs for the long-term car park. If you're using a sat nav, the postcode is NE13 8BZ.

Arrival procedure

Please take a ticket at the entry barrier, then park your car and catch the bus to the terminal. Keep your ticket somewhere safe, as you'll need it when you come back.

Departure procedure

If you need the shuttle bus, it will collect you from the pick-up point outside the front of the terminal and take you back to the car park. When you return to the car park, simply get in your car and drive to the barrier, then put your ticket into the barrier and it will let you out.

Use of the car park are subject to the prevailing Terms and Conditions which are available at the car park.

Disabled facilities

There are extra-wide spaces for disabled customers in Zone A.

Additional information

The car park does not accept lorries or trailers.

If you're delayed coming back, you'll need to pay for the extra parking at the car park's normal rate, which will be more expensive than the price you pay when you book with us - at the moment extra days cost £7.50 per day.

If you come back early, unfortunately we can't give you a refund for the time you've not used.

Premium Long Stay

Premium Long Stay is the nearest of the long stay car parks to the terminals, reducing your walk-time by another minute or so.

Drive to the car park - driving directions and a postcode for your satnav will be on your booking confirmation. Take a ticket at the barrier, then follow signs to the Premium Long Stay area. Park in any space and keep your keys.

From there, it's only a short walk to the terminal, around 3-5 mins.

On your return, walk back to the car park and collect your car. Drive to the barrier, insert your ticket and drive home.
