Holiday Extras Self Park is a straightforward keep-your-keys Park & Ride option at Grove Road in Slip End. Drive through the automatic barrier, choose your own parking space, lock the car and take your keys with you. The included shuttle runs regularly 24 hours a day and takes around 14 minutes to Luton Airport.

The appeal is simplicity. There is no key handover, no waiting for somebody else to park the car and no collection process when you return. Your vehicle stays in the space you chose until you come back.

With Holiday Extras Drop & Go, you leave the vehicle in the arrivals area, hand over the keys and staff park the car for you. With Self Park, you choose your own space, keep your keys and the car stays where you left it.

Choose Drop & Go if you would rather not search for a space. Choose Self Park if keeping your keys matters more. Since the transfer is essentially the same, price may end up making the decision for you.

How does Holiday Extras Self Park compare with Airparks Self Park?

Airparks Self Park also uses the Grove Road, Slip End operation and works in much the same way: park yourself, keep your keys and take the shuttle to Luton Airport.

So once again, do not assume a different name means a dramatically different parking experience. Compare the price for your dates, booking conditions and any differences in the exact product being sold. If the location, transfer and parking process are effectively the same, the cheapest suitable rate has a fairly strong argument in its favour.

How does Holiday Extras Self Park compare with APH Luton Self Park?

APH Luton Self Park is another keep-your-keys option using the same wider Grove Road/Airparks operation. Its published transfer is around 12–14 minutes, so there is very little between the two in journey time.

If your priority is simply keeping your keys, compare Holiday Extras Self Park, APH Self Park and Airparks Self Park together. The practical differences are relatively small, which makes price and booking conditions particularly important.

How does Holiday Extras Self Park compare with quicker self-parking?

If you want to keep your keys but would rather spend less time on the shuttle, Luton Premium Self Park advertises a transfer of around two minutes and Vauxhall Way Self Park is around five minutes from the terminal.

Holiday Extras Self Park takes longer at around 14 minutes, so the question is what the shorter transfer costs. If the closer options are only slightly more expensive they may be tempting; if Holiday Extras Self Park is considerably cheaper, another few minutes on the bus may be an easy trade.

Important things to know

Holiday Extras Self Park is at Grove Road, Slip End, Luton LU1 4BZ. The entry barrier reads the registration number on your booking, so make sure it is entered correctly. Once inside, choose any available space, remember where you parked and keep your keys with you.

Most standard cars are accepted provided they fit under the 2.2-metre entry barrier and within a standard 2.4m × 4.8m parking bay. Trailers and commercial vehicles are not accepted on the standard product.

The shuttle cannot carry large sporting equipment, so if you are travelling with items such as surfboards or other bulky kit, drop them at the terminal with your passengers before driving to the car park.

Arrival procedure

Follow the yellow signs for the car park, its entrance is roughly 300 metres after the blue Airparks entrance.

When you arrive, drive up to the barrier. It will automatically recognise your car reg and lift to let you in. Park in an available bay, keep your keys and make a note of where you've parked.

Then head to the nearest bus stop to catch the shuttle to the terminal. It's included in the price, takes around 14 minutes and runs regularly, 24 hours a day.

Return procedure

When you return catch the shuttle bus back to the car park – you'll need to show the driver your ticket you got on your arrival. The bus will drop you off in the zone you parked in.

Accessibility

The car park offers the following:-

- the lower buses, which have ramps and space for a wheelchair

Important information

The car park offers a grace period until midnight at their discretion. Any longer than this and you'll be charged the car park's standard rate of £20 per day. This is subject to change.

Most standard cars (without trailers/not commercial vehicles) will be accepted at the car park as long as they are less than 2m wide x 2.1m high x 5m long. The car park cannot accept any high-sided vehicles, minibuses, mobile homes, lorries, caravans, trailers or vehicles larger than the above maximum dimensions. Vehicles with a taxi license plate can be parked on-site, but cannot use the Return Greet or Meet and Greet services offered.

The shuttle bus can't accommodate large sporting equipment, so we'd recommend dropping any off with your passengers at the terminal first, then driving to the car park.
