Information about East Midlands Airport

East Midlands is one of the UK's fastest growing airports. It only has 1 terminal but flies to over 60 different destinations. It was opened in 1965 on the site of a Royal Airforce base and primarily used for transporting freight.

The airport was bought by the National Express group and then eventually sold on to the Manchester Airport group in March 2001 for 241 million pounds.

The airport has continued to prosper since then with passenger figures in 2001 at 2.38 million. East Midlands airport is the UK's largest pure cargo airport with DHL, TNT and UPS having bases there as well as being a primary hub for Royal Mail.

Information about East Midlands Parking

There are 12 pre-bookable options for East Midlands airport parking, 8 of these being on airport and 4 being meet and greet services.

There are 8 on airport car parks available for East Midlands airport parking. For longer stays, you are advised to book your car into one of the the Long Stay car parks which are known as the economy options and are suitable for stays of 5 days or more. For shorter stays, it is advisable to use the Short Stay car park for East Midlands parking. Short Stay is ideal if you are taking advantage of a short city break away and need parking for a long weekend or maybe 3-4 days in the week.

Long Stay Car Parks 1, 2 and 3 are only a short distance from the terminal building but there are free transfer shuttle buses for each car park, that will drop you at the terminal building.

Information for disabled passengers for East Midlands Airport Parking

The airport has extremely good facilities for disabled passengers. Disabled parking spaces may be found in the short stay car park ca. 100-150 metres from the terminal. Also, a fully accessible coach service will transfer passengers from the long stay car parks to the terminal building. Unfortunately, vehicles are no longer able to park at the front of the terminal building due to increased security measures.
