Teesside started out as an RAF bomber base in the second World War and became a civil airport during the 1960s when the local authorities took control of the site. The first scheduled flight took off in 1966, destination Manchester.

The airport is now known as Durham Tees Valley airport and offers a range of flights to London, Dublin and a host of European cities and holiday resorts.
