September Sun Fly

Lounging in the sun, reading a book and taking a dip in the pool or the sea, sounds like your typical August holiday, right?

Think again!

September Sun is the new Summer Holiday! You can get great last minute deals and many locations throughout Europe still have amazing weather into September (well, when you compare it to the Great British Summer, anyway!). Flights don’t have to take forever which means you don’t have to eke out that last bit of annual leave to take a whole week off work – why not head out for a long weekend?

It may already be half way through September, but we have picked out our top locations that we reckon are good reasons for a cheeky late September getaway. You won’t regret booking those flights!

Crete, Greece

The bonus about heading to Crete for the second half of September is that the season is finally starting to come to an end. Due to the fabulous temperatures, sun-seekers are still abound in September and even through to October! This does mean however, that relaxing on the beach is very definitely an option.

Many of the towns have great restaurants and bars to visit, and you can always dip into the rich Minoan history and architecture.

Tuscany, Italy

Florence

If you are flying into Florence, be prepared for a city bursting with art history and incredible architecture. There will be something for everyone in this beautiful location! If the outdoors and Tuscan countryside are more your taste, you can take a hike in the balmy temperatures in the Chianti region that lies just South of Florence. Or, head to the beach to really enjoy the sun! There are plenty of beaches varying in their type along the Tuscan coast, from the Versilia area to the Marina di Pisa and plenty more.

Marseille is a beautiful area with plenty to do, including a port and wonderful architecture. It also has some gorgeous sandy beaches, one of the best being Borély Beach.

You can also take a short ferry trip to the Frioul Islands, where you can seek a more secluded beach, however they are often rocky but with lovely clear waters. The Provence region offers a huge variety of things to do, with something for everyone!

Culture is abundant in Sicily, so if that’s your flavour you will have plenty to choose from, from the Greek Theatre at Taormina, north of Catania, to the art galleries and mosaics in Palermo. If you’ve come to enjoy the long days and Summer sunshine, head to one of the many beaches. Spisone and Giardini-Naxos are especially beautiful!

If you are in the mood for something more energetic, tackle Mount Etna with a qualified guide, although you can take a cable car fairly high up the ascent.

Zadar is well known for its beautiful beaches, and we highly recommend a visit to the pebbled shore of Kolovare beach. Lined with pine trees to offer shade and full of activities, such as trampolining, an inflatable water playground and jet-skiing, it has something for everyone to enjoy.

Speaking of its waters, for a unique experience, why not visit the Morske Orgulje (Sea Organ). Sit back and listen to Nature’s music – whether the waves are lapping gently over the carved pipes, or crashing into a crescendo, each day brings a different musical wonder. It has been named one of the best tourist attractions in Croatia, beating many historical buildings and landmarks!
