"The booking process is great but this is the second time I have visited car park 5 and the second time the camera has not recognised my number plate. It always works in Gatwick and Stansted?"

"We arrived early in the morning earlier than expected due to a Lufthansa strike and there was also unexpected fog but the numberplate recognition worked, the ticket came out, we found a gap and the shuttle bus saw us and waited at the stop. Coming back was just as easy. The shuttle bus came in about 10 minutes and the ticket let us out without fuss. Easiest and best airport parking ever!"

"Very poor. We arrived at approx 10am and parked adjacent to one of the 10 minute shelters. 25 minutes later the bus arrived, with no explanation from the driver as to why it was running late. The reason soon became apparent. The newly installed barriers to exit Car Park 5 didn't work. We sat on the coach, waiting at the barriers for a further 25 mins. 50 minutes to transfer to the airport is very poor. On our return we decided to take the 10 minute walk from airport to the car park, funnily enough, we didn't see the transfer bus at all. It was probably still sitting at the barrier."

"All ran very smoothly, driver on bus on way back helped me with what stop I needed. Only bad point was finding this morning when I got up that someone has scuffed my car which I didn't see on return due to it being dark."

"The machine didn't automatically issue a ticket when I arrived so had to contact customer services when I arrived delaying entry. Then on return the ticket requested I pay an additional £100 to leave. It wasn't until after another discussion with customer services that I got out.

The automated system is broken, expect to wasted 10 mins on both arrival and departure discussing your predicament with customer services!"

"No problems with parking and bus service although better signage for the Exit would be helpful.

One major problem which probably is outside of your control was the parking of coaches, minibuses and taxis in the airport bus lane outside the Arrivals, making it very difficult for us to see the airport bus arriving and very difficult for your driver to park. I did hear him reporting this to his Control; however, I think that the Airport Authorities should be doing more to prevent this happening in future."

"Great - all as advertised except the 10 minute waits seemed longer whilst waiting in the cold - PLUS, actually this is important, machine at exit told me I needed to pay £102+ for my weeks parking even though I had pre-paid! Nothing a quick call to the operator didn't sort out, but worrying nonetheless . . ."

"It's the first time we have used this car parking facility and found it practical and convenient, especially as we had an early departure and did not want any extra hassle. Being within five minutes of check-in was so convenient. Will certainly use the facility again. Coach transport to and from the car park was quick and efficient and the driver responsive and courteous to the needs of passengers, particularly a female with mobility difficulties though he left me to help her board the coach rather than leave his seat. Perhaps he should have done that?

I do feel that with many passengers having heavy suitcases, the coaches could be better designed. Most people left their heavy cases at floor level in the "bays" which standing passengers would normally have occupied rather than try to lift them approx 2 to 3 feet into the places provided. However, with suitcases now standing on the floor but having little restraint, these were then free to move about the floor. I know the buses come pre-designed, but could not someone think about this aspect of design."

"Honestly hassle free experience, we were very impressed that our trip was so easy. We found our parking easily with registration recognition and was surprised wen our ticket automatically came out the machine with our name on it and barriers opened. Definatly recommend & will use again.
Although we had a flat battery when we arrived back and think our alarm may have been going off. Was a mystery why and would have been nice to have been notified if this was the case as we were puzzled. No damage to our car at all."

"When arriving the barrier did not lift so spoke to lady who then issued our ticket. When returning again after putting in our ticket the barrier did not lift and the machine was showing we owed over £100, after speaking again to a gentleman and giving our name the barrier was lifted without us having to pay.
All worked out fine but it does worry you a little when this happens after pre-booking, it's as if on arrival they had not got our booking details even after we gave our reference number."

"Arrived at the car park on time only to find that half of it was being resufaced and that car parking spaces were hard to find drove around for about ten minuets trying to find a space to park.

On my return the ANPR system did not recongnise my number plate and would not let me out of the car park untill i buzzed the operator and gave them my name & booking ref which was in my hand baggage, buy which time a line of traffic was forming behind me.

My car was coverd in dirt and dust from the resufaceing work that had be going on all week around my car.

Had i been aware of this beforhand i would have used a different car park to Long stay 1.

"Simple off the m42 turn right at the roundabout next roundabout 1st left into the car park find a space onto the bus and into the airport within 10 minutes excellent:-) no fuss no waiting just so easy"

Very close to terminal, so if bus not about it will only take you a few mins to walk there.

Bus driver very friendly & welcoming plus drive very safely. The bus itself was faily clean."

"A poor experience. Although I paid in advance, the license plate was not recognized and I had to call for assistance for the barrier to be lifted. On return, when I entered the card into the barrier the read out was £92(!) and once again I had to call for assistance for the barrier to be raised. The shuttle bus driver did not call out the parking areas, which were difficult to identify in the dark, and the exit signs were hard to find when we left."

"Had a bad experience booking airport parking. Having booked parking through airport parking shop (essential travel) I was informed on my arrival at Birmingham airport I had no booking. Various phone calls/emails later I was assured my booking would be sorted for my return two days later.
Despite this assurance it wasn't - I had to pay a further £42.50 on top of my original £34.99! A very expensive parking space on a car park that resembles a building site. I'm currently in the process of trying to get a refund..
I will never use airport parking shop/essential travel again and neither will I recommend it."

"We booked the long stay car park 1 at Birmingham airport. What a breeze. Turned up on the day after booking online, anpr camera read my registration number and my details appeared on the ticket machine. Ticket then produced and entry gained. Four days later put my ticket into the barrier on leaving no issues. A total pleasure from start to finish and you keep your own vehicle keys after you have parked which was important to us. All in all I would book again no issues. Bus transfers very regular also"

"Worst experience ever! I paid upfront but my details were not sent to NCP. they let me into the car park but I had to run around Birmingham airport looking for the NCP hut!!!! In order to discuss the problem. I was advised to contact Essential Travel prior to returning to avoid further payment.
Essential travel were emailed twice by myself, they eventually replied and assured me that they had now sent my details to NCP and I would have no problems on my return. Alas! My details were not recorded and NCP let me out because I sounded Genuine.
Disgusting service for ALOT of money. Never Ever Again!"

"I thought the service was very poor! There are not enought courtesy stops and the driver does not inform passengers of the approaching stop. There is a sign saying the driver will to inform of the approaching stop but not everyone sees or reads it. At all other UK airports the driver gives the information and from my experience ALL are far more customer orientated than you!!"

"I booked the Long Stay 1 car park afew days in advance and was impressed with the automatic number plate recognition service and so recommended it to my son-in-law who was travelling in a separate car.
His number plate was recognised on arrival whereas mine was not. I gave my details to the attendant and we were quickly allowed through, so suffered little delay.
However, when we came to depart he was again recognised whereas I was asked for £92.50 for one week parking. Therefore I had to contact the attendant again, but on this occasion had to wait for several minutes until we were allowed through at no further charge. Unfortunately this meant that my son-in-law had to carry on which normally would not be a problem, but on this occasion caused some difficulty to the motorway closure.
My wife's comment was that "we shall not be parking here again!"."
